Abdominal pain in children is a common problem. Tummy aches are often described differently by toddlers, school-age children, and teenagers. Even though abdominal pain is a common complaint, only a limited number of times does it turn out to be a more serious illness. Warning signs, such as diarrhea , vomiting , weight loss, poor growth, awakening at night or rectal bleeding raise greater concern. Abdominal pain without warning signs often fits into functional abdominal pain or often called irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
