Encopresis is voluntary or involuntary fecal soiling in children who have usually been toilet trained. Boys are much more commonly found to have encopresis and constipationis often a contributing factor to developing encopresis.
Encopresis with constipation: feces are usually poorly formed and leakage is continuous, and this occurs both during sleep and waking hours.
Encopresis without constipation: feces are usually well formed, soiling is intermittent, and feces are usually deposited in a prominent location. This form may be associated with oppositional defiant disorder or conduct disorder.
